Happy Friday, and welcome back. Corteva's seed business walked out the door as its own listed company this week, Hormel put a billion dollars on chicken, and a handful of crop protection brands changed owners. Grab a coffee, there's a lot of portfolio shuffling to get through.

This Week's Paid Edition: Under Glass

Our latest Trends Analysis looks at the greenhouse sector in 2026 against 2025, using the iGrowNews database. Funding reached more companies in smaller amounts, with $249.7M spread across 12 deals, while ownership changes doubled to ten and 44 partnerships were tracked. The activity base also widened, from 16 countries to 23, and the edition breaks down what that spread means for growers, suppliers and investors in controlled-environment production.

I. Weekly Pulse: The Impact Scorecard

  • Vylor Lists on the NYSE: Corteva's seed and genetics business completed its spin-off on October 1 and now trades as Vylor (VYLR). It is targeting $11.2-11.9 billion in revenue by 2029 from corn, soybean and wheat genetics.

  • Hormel Buys Brakebush for $1.055B: Hormel Foods agreed to acquire the Wisconsin value-added chicken maker, which generated about $1.2 billion in trailing net sales. It deepens Hormel's foodservice protein business.

  • FMC Sells a 20% Stake to Tessenderlo: Tessenderlo Group paid about $403 million for roughly 20% of FMC Corporation. The cash completes FMC's debt paydown plan and closes its strategic review.

  • AMVAC Buys Four Syngenta Brands: American Vanguard's AMVAC is taking over US registrations for Caparol, Evik, Prime+ and Agri-Flex from Syngenta. It is the latest sign of majors pruning mature products.

  • Origin Agritech Sells Its Xinjiang Seed Unit: Origin Agritech raised about $15.0 million by selling its stake and leasing the production base back. Proceeds go to working capital and new corn varieties.

II. Tier 1: Corporate & Financial Shifts

Vylor spin-off from Corteva. The new company trades on the NYSE under VYLR, led by CEO Chuck Magro from Johnston, Iowa. It values its corn, soybean and wheat pipeline at $19 billion, plans 12 platform launches over the next decade, including the Xpedite hybrid wheat system and the Vylor One licensing business, and targets $11.2-11.9 billion in revenue by 2029. Structural Impact: a pure-play seed major now competes for capital on its germplasm story alone, and Vylor One makes it a supplier to independent breeders as well as their rival.

Hormel Foods to acquire Brakebush. The price of about $1.055 billion is under one times Brakebush's roughly $1.2 billion in trailing sales and adds five plants and two R&D labs. Closing is expected in Hormel's first fiscal quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approval. Structural Impact: protein consolidation keeps moving into foodservice, where scale in further-processed chicken is the moat.

Crop protection portfolio reshuffle. Tessenderlo Group bought its FMC stake at $13.30 a share in a private placement, with a board nominee, a standstill and a three-year lock-up. AMVAC's four Syngenta brands add more than $7 million in annual net sales, pending EPA registration transfer. Bi-PA sold the EMEA rights to its TEMAP biofungicide to Nichino Europe to focus on development. Structural Impact: majors are shedding mature products, mid-caps are buying them, and FMC now has a strategic anchor shareholder.

Balance-sheet moves in seeds and CEA. Origin Agritech sold its 70.5% stake in Xinjiang Originbo Seed to Hunan Xindaxin for RMB 108 million and keeps the site on a five-year lease. Edible Garden (Nasdaq: EDBL) signed to buy its 6.2-acre site in Webster City, Iowa, where it is building a ready-to-drink beverage line with capacity above 100 million units.

III. Tier 2: Innovation & Public Strategy

1. Go-to-Market & Product Launches

ADAMA had two launches: Actavan, a beet-extract fungicide for grape Botrytis in Australia and New Zealand with zero residue and no pre-harvest interval, and Rexaro, a dual-mode fungicide for downy mildew and late blight in India. AGCO's Valtra opened orders for its sixth-generation T Series (170-245 hp), and New Holland brought its 42 hp 3230 TX to Chhattisgarh, India. Aigen released Element Gen 2 X4, an autonomous robot that pulls weeds at the root, and Antobot is targeting 300 UV-C robot deployments in strawberries in 2027. DeLaval brought its AI herd platform DeLaval Plus to the United States, Pivot Bio expanded RETURN microbial nitrogen for winter wheat, and Arevo reported up to 30% less nitrogen with its Arginex Corn seed treatment in independent trials. Expana launched an MCP server that feeds its agrifood benchmark prices into AI assistants.

2. Institutional & Regulatory Plays

The US EPA set a permanent sugar beet tolerance for UPL's acifluorfen herbicide, ending annual emergency exemptions. The USDA Center for Veterinary Biologics granted conditional licensure to BiomEdit's CPerf LLV for necrotic enteritis in broilers. Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock approved Ascribe Bio's Phytalix biofungicide, and FMC filed its dual-mode herbicide rimisoxafen there. Clear approvals shorten the path to revenue, which lowers the risk for investors in biologicals. On the deal side, Massey Ferguson will source compact tractors from International Tractors Limited for Europe and the Middle East, ForFarmers completed its Polish joint venture with KPS Food Group, Enza Zaden and Limagrain Vegetable Seeds will pool IP on ToBRFV resistance, and Cibus licensed gene-edited mustard traits to Crystal Crop Protection for India. FBN partnered with the Google AI Futures Fund, and Ridder opened a service center in Yunnan, China.

IV. Tier 3: Market Signals & Operations

  • Research, Studies & Lawsuits: Corteva and Inari settled the suit Corteva filed in 2023 in the US District Court for the District of Delaware; Inari will destroy the Corteva seed material and assign related IP to Corteva. Switch Bioworks received approval from Brazil's CTNBio to field-test its engineered nitrogen-fixing microbes in soybean and corn.

  • Organizational Health: The United Soybean Board named Courtney Knupp CEO in St. Louis, Missouri, and Reservoir hired former CDFA Undersecretary Christy Birdsong as Head of External Affairs in Salinas, California. Cytotrait added Dr Ian Jepson, Biotalys added Christine Berwaerts and Ioana Tudor, and Ranchbot named a new global board in Fort Worth, Texas after its US$15M Series B; the California Milk Advisory Board named 15 companies to its Real California Milk Excelerator.
